What service do I need?

Choosing the right service is essential. If you are dealing with a written text, then ask for a TRANSLATION. If you are facing a conference, a meeting, a seminar or an event with speeches, ask for INTERPRETING.

What kind of interpreting? Simultaneous, consecutive or liaison?

Interpreting techniques differ according to the type of delivery, event, equipment and number of professionals involved.

Simultaneous interpreting is the real time delivery of a speech. It is used during conferences and events entailing one speaker at a time and a large audience. Special equipment (soundproof booths, headset with microphone and radio receivers) is needed. Each language combination (i.e. each booth) hosts two interpreters who work taking turns).

In consecutive interpreting the speaker deliver his/her speech, while the interpreter takes notes. Afterwards, the interpreter delivers the entire speech. Given the sequence of actions, consider that the time of the speech is doubled. This technique is used in seminars, smaller events or when there is a limited number of speakers. No equipment is required and the interpreter works alone.

As for liaison interpreting, the interpreter memorizes the words of the speaker and summarizes them right after. Therefore liaison interpreting is employed in small meetings, group discussions, visits and events involving a limited number of participants and short speeches.
